Overview

In this role you will drive growth by turning enquiries into profitable structural steel projects. You’ll build and maintain client relationships, collaborating with estimating, engineering and operations to develop technically and commercially viable solutions. You will manage the sales pipeline from initial enquiry to tender and award, working with contractors, engineers, architects and clients. You’ll sell technical solutions on meaningful projects within a respected, employee-owned business that values safety, quality and people. This is your chance to shape the company’s future pipeline.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and nurture relationships with existing and prospective clients
  • Identify new business opportunities in the structural steel market
  • Manage incoming enquiries and progress opportunities
  • Collaborate with estimating to prepare competitive proposals
  • Support converting enquiries into secured projects
  • Attend pre-tender interviews and post-tender presentations
  • Engage with contractors, engineers, architects, consultants and stakeholders
  • Understand client requirements and propose technical and commercial solutions
  • Identify value engineering opportunities
  • Support development of sales pipeline and provide regular opportunities reports
  • Represent the company at client meetings and industry events
  • Coordinate with internal teams to ensure smooth transition from sales to delivery
  • Contribute to strategies for growing customer base and market presence

Key requirements

  • Proven sales or business development experience, ideally in structural steel, construction or engineering
  • Strong understanding of the construction industry and its stakeholders
  • Existing relationships with contractors, engineers, architects or consultants (advantageous)
  • Strong commercial awareness and knowledge of construction techniques
  • Ability to discuss and understand technical drawings and specifications
  • Knowledge of structural steel (advantageous)
  • Experience on projects from small schemes to major packages
  • Strong negotiation and influencing skills
  • Excellent communication and presentation abilities
  • Commercially driven with a customer focus
  • Self-motivated, organised and independent
  • Strong interpersonal skills with ability to communicate at all levels
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Experience of value engineering and practical solutions (advantageous)
