Associate Mechanical Design Engineer (Data Centres) – London or Newcastle

Overview

In this role you will lead major projects for data centres as part of RED’s London team, shaping mechanical design and project delivery. You’ll coordinate engineering services, mentor colleagues, and ensure compliance with industry standards while driving efficient project execution. You’ll engage with clients and stakeholders to translate requirements into robust, low-energy building solutions. Responsibilities

• Lead major projects and manage project teams.
• Coordinate mechanical/electrical engineering services across building types.
• Prepare fee bids, feasibility studies, and cost/financial analysis.
• Review progress with project personnel and adjust schedules as needed.
• Produce project reports for management and clients.
• Specify control systems and operating principles for building services.
• Survey, test, and report on existing installations.
• Ensure drawings and calculations meet standards and client requirements.
• Represent the company at technical meetings with clients and contractors.
• Provide day-to-day guidance to clients and stakeholders.
• Monitor risk and performance through internal controls.

Key requirements

• BSc/BEng in engineering or equivalent experience
• Chartered Eng status or MCIBSE/MIEE or HND/HNC with relevant experience
• Extensive experience in design specification for diverse building types
• Strong knowledge of health and safety legislation and UK regulations
• Experience with invoicing and credit control
• Proficiency with MS Office and calculation/spreadsheet tools
• Leadership and mentoring abilities
• Excellent presentation and meeting facilitation skills
• Background in consulting or construction; international/global operations understanding
• Ethics compliance and professional conduct
