Senior or Principal Civil Engineer – Rivers & Coastal

Overview

As a Senior/Principal Engineer in Stantec’s River and Coastal Team, you will lead the design and delivery of river, flood risk, and land development schemes. You will work across concept to construction with stakeholders including the Environment Agency and clients. You will mentor junior engineers and potentially line-manage, while growing the team. You will apply your expertise to sustainable drainage, river restoration, and earthworks to create safer, more resilient communities.

Responsibilities

• Prepare drainage strategies, flood risk management, river engineering and river restoration designs
• Conduct calculations and produce planning/design stage reports
• Create plans and drawings across project stages (concept to construction)
• Design earthworks, river structures and drainage schemes; prepare specifications
• Ensure high-quality design delivery through QA checks
• Engage with Environment Agency and other stakeholders for approvals
• Liaise with clients, third-party bodies, and multi-disciplinary teams
• Support construction stage with site queries and inspections
• Mentor junior engineers; potential line management
• Project management (training available)

Key requirements

• Civil Engineering degree; Chartered status or near application
• Experience in Infrastructure or Environmental Design
• Experience producing Flood Risk Assessments and SuDS designs
• Experience coordinating with multiple disciplines and stakeholders
• Ability to represent employer in client-facing roles
• Ability to work independently
