Principal or Associate Road Safety Engineer / Auditor

Overview

In this role you will lead and coordinate road safety initiatives within the Liveable Places team, focusing on audits, Vision Zero initiatives, and transport/urban design projects. You will manage projects, proposals, and client collaboration to deliver safe, planning-led solutions. The role combines technical road safety expertise with team leadership and program management to drive impact for local authorities and communities. Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate Road Safety Audits (RSAs) as Team Leader
• Manage Vision Zero/Road Safety projects, including data analysis and scheme design
• Develop proposals for RSAs, Vision Zero, and related transport/urban planning work
• Prepare and review reports, drawings, schedules, and other documents
• Oversee project finances, programmes, and deliverables
• Collaborate with clients and cross-functional teams within WSP
• Support a wide range of projects aligned with skills and experience
• Contribute to team growth and liveability aims

Key requirements

• Qualified Road Safety Auditor status per DMRB GG 119 with team leadership experience
• Expert knowledge of road safety, mitigation strategies, and collision data analysis
• Experience with Vision Zero and the Safe System approach
• Project management experience
• Mentoring and/or line management experience
• Excellent organisational skills with ability to prioritise and meet deadlines
