Sr Associate Solicitor – Court of Protection – Cardiff – 3+ PQE

Overview

In this role you manage a diverse Court of Protection caseload and contribute to high-value deputyships. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to support vulnerable clients, including those with traumatic brain injuries or capacity issues, while developing leadership skills within the team. The position offers exposure to complex matters and opportunities to shape practice development in a supportive, inclusive environment. Responsibilities

• Manage a varied Court of Protection caseload and related tasks
• Prepare and handle applications to appoint professional or lay deputies
• Advise on Personal Injury Trusts and attorneyship matters
• Prepare Statutory Will applications and trust-related matters
• Deal with applications under sections 36(9) and 54 of the Trustee Act 1925
• Prepare annual Deputy Reports for the Office of the Public Guardian
• Collaborate with personal injury and clinical negligence teams on compensation matters
• Support high value and complex deputyships with senior colleagues
• Ensure clients receive state benefits and manage budgets, investments and tax returns
• Handle sensitive family dynamics with professionalism and empathy
• Assist with property purchases, adaptations, insurance, and ongoing management
• Liaise with case managers and therapy professionals
• Supervise and mentor junior team members
• Attend networking and marketing events to support team growth

Key requirements

• Strong Court of Protection experience (3+ years PQE preferred)
• Excellent knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and OPG Deputy Standards
• Strong organisational and administrative skills
• High attention to detail and accuracy
• Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities
• Compassionate, approachable and reliable manner
• Ability to manage a busy and varied caseload independently
