Fire and Health & Safety Manager

Overview

In this pivotal role, you lead fire and health and safety across the Trust to protect patients, colleagues and visitors. You will steer policy, assurance and risk management while driving a safer culture in collaboration with services and external partners. You’ll head the Fire, Health and Safety Team, delivering training, inspections and incident response to meet legal and regulatory standards. This position offers a visible Trust-wide impact, with opportunities to shape safety practice across multiple sites.

Responsibilities

• Lead the implementation and continuous improvement of fire and health and safety policies and workstreams
• Develop and oversee inspections and audits across Trust sites to ensure policy and regulatory compliance
• Advise services on risk identification, assessment, and management and monitor local action plans
• Lead RIDDOR reporting processes, ensuring proper data collection, review and escalation
• Develop and deliver staff training in partnership with the Trust Academy and specialists
• Build relationships with external bodies such as the Health and Safety Executive and fire services
• Represent the Trust in senior internal and external meetings
• Manage, supervise and develop the Fire, Health and Safety Team with clear objectives and development
• Promote proactive safety culture and drive continuous improvement across the Trust

Key requirements

• Significant experience in health and safety, fire safety or safety compliance within a complex organisation
• Experience reviewing incidents, near misses, risk assessments and improvement plans
• Experience preparing reports, briefings and assurance updates for governance groups or senior managers
• Good working knowledge of Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 and related regulations
• Specialist knowledge of fire safety legislation and healthcare fire safety guidance
• Ability to produce clear written reports, briefings and action updates
• Degree level qualification or equivalent relevant experience
• Desirable: Fire safety qualification relevant to healthcare or complex premises
• Desirable: Understanding of CQC expectations relating to safe environments
