Head of Yorkshire Young Musicians

Overview

In this role you lead Yorkshire Young Musicians through an exciting growth phase, shaping strategic direction and hands-on operations for a regional Centre for Advanced Training in music. You will oversee centres in Leeds and Hull, work with partners and funders, and ensure inclusive, high-quality music education for young musicians aged 8-18. You’ll balance strategic development with day-to-day management to extend impact and sustainability. This is a mission-driven opportunity to influence lives through music at a regional scale.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership with the Board to deliver vision, values and strategic aims
• Lead development of clear, inclusive progression pathways across YYM programmes
• Oversee Leeds and Hull centres operations, timetabling, administration, and communication
• Lead student recruitment
• Ensure high-quality teaching, learning and student support including individual learning plans and QA
• Develop enrichment and progression opportunities to nurture potential and ambition
• Prepare and monitor budgets and oversee financial processes
• Ensure governance, statutory reporting, policies and safeguarding arrangements
• Maintain strong student welfare focus

Key requirements

• Significant professional experience in music education and/or the music profession
• Experience leading and managing staff, teams or programmes
• Experience developing or overseeing high-quality music education for young people
• Excellent understanding of development of young musicians and progression pathways
• Knowledge of safeguarding, inclusion and good practice with young people
• Excellent leadership, communication and relationship-building skills
• Ability to work collaboratively
• Understanding of financial management, budgeting, and reporting on budgets
• Ability to evaluate quality of music education and lead change
