Business Development Director – Test & Training

Overview

In this role you lead sustainable growth for QinetiQ’s Test, Evaluation and Training business across the UK, Australia, and select NATO countries. You will shape market strategy, drive priority opportunities, and build high-performing cross-functional teams. You will strengthen senior-level relationships with customers, partners, and internal stakeholders to deliver growth aligned with corporate priorities. The position combines strategic leadership with execution of captures and investment cases, offering a global impact in defence and security domains.

Responsibilities

• Develop and agree a growth plan aligned to strategy and opportunities across the company
• Identify and prioritise near-term and long-term opportunities to support the growth plan
• Deliver growth across existing portfolio and future pipeline through cross-functional teams
• Lead strategic captures aligned to company priorities and develop investment cases for executive approval
• Shape differentiated, commercially strong positions for contracts and strategic opportunities
• Build and manage relationships with customers, partners and internal stakeholders
• Ensure quality of offers, commitments and customer engagement approaches
• Build team capability and maintain succession plans across the function
• Advise leadership on market opportunities, positioning and stakeholder strategy
• Communicate growth priorities and successes to strengthen collaboration and impact

Key requirements

• Experience leading successful business development or strategic engagement teams in a multi-national organisation with a record of order intake growth
• Significant senior experience in the UK defence or security sector with understanding of stakeholder environment
• Ability to influence senior external and internal stakeholders and translate insight into growth outcomes
• Degree qualified in a relevant discipline; MBA desirable
• Strong understanding of defence and security markets, customers, competitors, and regulation
