Public Sector Solicitor

Overview

You will support a leading national public law and commercial advisory team in Manchester, handling high-profile public sector matters. You’ll work on procurement, contracts, outsourcing, and governance, with exposure to policy-shaping projects. Collaborating with senior lawyers, you’ll deliver practical, commercial advice and contribute to client training and thought leadership. This role blends high-quality legal work with development opportunities in a fast-moving public sector environment.

Responsibilities

• Drafting, reviewing and negotiating commercial contracts (services, outsourcing, framework, collaboration agreements)
• Advising on procurement strategy and compliance with UK procurement regulations (Procurement Act 2023)
• Providing governance and public law support related to contractual arrangements
• Working with senior lawyers to deliver practical, commercially sound advice
• Carrying out legal research and helping prepare client training, briefing notes, and thought leadership
• Participating in client development activities, including tenders, events and webinars

Key requirements

• 0–3 years’ PQE (England & Wales)
• Qualified solicitor (or soon to qualify)
• Demonstrable interest in public sector commercial work
• Commercial contracts experience essential
• Solid understanding of public procurement or willingness to develop expertise
• Strong drafting and analytical skills
• Collaborative team player with strong written and verbal communication
• Ability to manage deadlines and adapt in a fast-moving environment
