Senior Town Planner

Overview

In this role you will contribute to WSP’s Major Projects Planning and Development Team, delivering commercial planning and development advice for private and public clients on major social infrastructure projects. You will work on landmark schemes in healthcare, life sciences, education, defence and housing, collaborating with cross-functional teams to secure planning outcomes. You will lead planning activities with support from senior staff, shaping strategies and documentation for development proposals. Responsibilities

• Devising planning strategies and assessing site history against policy frameworks
• Preparing briefing notes and drafting planning statements to support proposals
• Reviewing third-party documents for consistency and validity
• Assisting with planning aspects in multidisciplinary project teams
• Attending site visits, design team and client meetings
• Managing project delivery and budgetary control
• Joining negotiations with planning authorities and stakeholders
• Collaborating with colleagues across WSP and external organisations
• Monitoring planning applications and coordinating responses to consultations

Key requirements

• Degree level qualification in town planning and/or postgraduate qualification in a relevant subject
• Chartered status (MRTPI / MRICS)
• Solid knowledge of the UK planning system gained in local authority or private sector
• Good technical and IT skills
• Commercial approach to planning consultancy and development
• Desire to work in a growing planning team with supportive professionals
