Town Planner to Senior Town Planner (Infrastructure & Energy)

Overview

In this role you will develop planning and consenting strategies for major infrastructure projects and coordinate multidisciplinary teams to secure approvals. You will work within the Consents team, advising clients through the planning and consenting process, with exposure to regimes such as NSIPs and DCOs. The position offers significant client contact and opportunities for professional development across energy, transport and major commercial schemes. You will contribute to shaping project outcomes while balancing regulatory and stakeholder considerations.

Responsibilities

• Develop planning and consenting strategies for major infrastructure projects
• Prepare and support planning and consent applications, including DCOs, TWAOs, Section 36 and TCPA applications
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary project teams, clients, statutory consultees and regulatory bodies
• Support public consultation and stakeholder engagement
• Prepare planning reports, consent documentation and examination materials
• Identify planning risks, constraints and opportunities
• Support project management and programme delivery
• Build strong client relationships and contribute to business development

Key requirements

• Planner with 2–3 years’ experience or Senior Planner with 4+ years’ experience
• Experience in planning consultancy, local authority or related environment
• Solid understanding of the UK planning system and Town and Country Planning Act
• Experience in infrastructure, transport, energy, electricity transmission or renewable energy preferred
• Exposure to NSIPs, DCOs or other infrastructure consenting regimes advantageous
• RTPI membership or working towards professional membership
