Major Projects Town Planner

Overview

In this Senior/Principal role, you drive strategic planning for major development schemes in Oxford, aligning with the city’s growth and regeneration goals. You’ll work within the Development Management team to progress complex applications for high-profile projects, collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders. The role offers meaningful impact on Oxford2050 and the city’s future, with a balanced mix of committee work and on-site delivery. A strong track record in large UK council schemes is essential to hit the ground running.

Responsibilities

• Progress major planning applications for the council with speed and quality
• Lead on strategic and complex development schemes
• Deliver large-scale projects (e.g., urban extensions, mixed-use developments)
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders
• Attend meetings and committees on a regular cadence (weekly/fortnightly)

Key requirements

• Experience on strategic and complex planning applications within a Local Authority
• Track record of delivering large schemes in a UK council context
• Ability to hit the ground running in a high-pressure environment
