Job Description:

Overview

As an RF Engineer in Helsing’s Physical Products team, you will design and integrate RF front-ends and antennas for platforms operating in contested environments. You’ll work across the full chain—from design to testing—ensuring RF subsystems meet link budgets, resilience, and EMI requirements in real-world conditions. You’ll collaborate across electronics, software, and systems disciplines to deliver robust, field-tested solutions that support our mission to protect democracies. This role offers hands-on hardware work and meaningful impact at the cutting edge of defence technology.

Pay / Benefits

  • Competitive salary
  • VSOP options
  • Relocation support
  • Learning allowance
  • Health & wellness benefits
  • Parental leave and family support

Responsibilities

  • Design and specify RF front-ends, antennas, and related hardware with attention to gain, bandwidth, efficiency, size, and cost trade-offs
  • Own link budget analysis for communications, telemetry, and seeker/radar systems
  • Enhance resilience to contested electromagnetic environments, addressing jamming and interference
  • Integrate RF systems into the wider electrical architecture with grounding, shielding, and EMC considerations
  • Operate RF test equipment (spectrum analysers, VNAs, signal generators) to characterise and validate hardware
  • Collaborate with electronics, software and systems engineers to ensure clean integration with power, structure and avionics
  • Support field testing including range trials and EW/interference testing, and feed results back into design
  • Produce documentation such as link budgets, test reports, and interface definitions for team and customers

Key requirements

  • Designed and integrated RF systems in a professional engineering context (ideally aerospace/defence or safety-critical domains)
  • Strong understanding of RF fundamentals (propagation, antennas, link budgets, modulation, noise, interference)
  • Hands-on experience with RF test and measurement equipment and debugging real hardware
  • Experience in systems that must operate in degraded RF environments or the ability to reason about such requirements
  • Ability to interpret complex datasheets and translate specifications into sound RF design decisions
  • Cross-disciplinary collaboration skills and clear written/spoken English
  • Cross-functional collaboration
  • Clear written and spoken communication
  • Problem-solving in high-stakes environments
  • RF front-end and antenna design
  • Link-budget analysis
  • EMC/grounding/shielding considerations
