Systems Design Engineer

Overview

In this role you will support the end-to-end design and development of complex, safety-critical systems within a regulated environment. You collaborate with architecture and delivery teams to shape functional behavior and ensure traceable design decisions. You will translate stakeholder needs into testable requirements and produce structured design artefacts. The role focuses on robust interfaces, integration challenges, and issue resolution, offering meaningful impact on mission-critical programmes.

Responsibilities

• Support system design across the full engineering lifecycle from concept to deployment
• Collaborate with architecture and delivery teams to define functional behaviour
• Analyse requirements and interfaces, identify gaps, and propose improvements
• Produce clear system documentation including requirements and interface definitions
• Support issue investigation, change impact assessment and technical queries
• Contribute to engineering reviews and ensure robust, traceable design decisions

Key requirements

• Experience in systems engineering/design in complex, regulated, or safety-critical environments
• Strong requirements mindset with ability to translate stakeholder needs into clear, testable requirements
• Good understanding of interfaces and integration across multi-disciplinary teams
• Degree qualified (or equivalent) in an engineering or relevant technical discipline
• Clear communication and methodical problem-solving approach
• Eligibility to work in the UK and BPSS baseline checks (as part of security requirements)
