Fire Engineer

Overview

In this Fire Safety Engineer role, you will deliver fire safety design and advisory support across building projects and, at times, rail initiatives. You will work within Arcadis’ Consulting team to provide practical, compliant fire engineering solutions and risk-based assessments. You’ll lead and participate in projects, mentor junior staff, and contribute to fee proposals and bid activities. The position offers exposure to diverse sectors and complex regulatory frameworks, with a clear path toward leadership. You will help shape safer buildings and transport infrastructure as part of a multidisciplinary, globally connected practice.

Responsibilities

• Deliver fire engineering design and reviews across sectors
• Develop Fire Safety Strategy reports and means of escape analyses
• Assess regulatory compliance with UK standards (AD B, BS 9999/9991, etc.) and rail-specific codes
• Lead fire projects and project teams; manage time/cost budgets
• Mentor and line-manage junior staff; support career development
• Support business development including bids, proposals, and client meetings
• Conduct third-party design verification and client-facing project coordination
• Develop Fire Risk Assessment reports for buildings and rail sectors
• Attend internal and external design team meetings and liaise with clients, architects, and contractors
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of fire safety regulations and emerging legislation
• Provide risk-based interpretation of fire safety standards and international codes (NFPA)
• Assist in knowledge transfer and capability building within the team

Key requirements

• Recent demonstrable experience in fire safety engineering across multiple sectors
• Strong client-facing and relationship-building skills
• Robust problem-solving and accountability for deliverables
• Experience writing reports and delivering presentations to clients and internal teams
• Experience in a medium to large multi-disciplinary environment
• Membership with professional bodies (IFE, CABE, RICS, IET, CIOB) or working towards membership
