Fire engineer

Overview

Join Framatome UK as a Fire engineer to lead fire prevention and protection studies for Nuclear Island buildings in major projects. You will apply nuclear safety and safety-at-work principles, analyse materials and fire scenarios, and support layout and systems teams to address fire-related challenges. Your work will influence design changes, regulatory compliance, and safety performance across critical facilities. Responsibilities

• Characterise combustible materials and associated risks in different areas
• Perform time-based fire modelling with MAGIC to assess fire propagation and consequences
• Assess damage risk to systems and identify common cause failures affecting nuclear safety
• Provide technical Fire support to systems and layout teams for fire-related questions
• Contribute to potential design changes by evaluating fire study impacts
• Conduct regulatory fire life safety assessments
• Recommend fire protection and detection solutions
• Prepare and coordinate deliverables with project planning and quality processes
• Participate in committees and task forces to provide Fire safety guidance and NS&E representation

Key requirements

• Engineering degree with specialization in safety and/or fire protection technologies
• Knowledge of Nuclear safety and fault studies
• Familiarity with ETCF (EPR technical code for fire)
• Experience with UK Fire Regulations including BS9999
• Ability to perform fire protection calculations and use calculation tools
• Ability to propose fire protection and detection solutions
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
• Fluent English; French is a bonus
