As Technical Director in London, you will advance WJE’s emerging fire engineering practice across the UK and Europe, guiding a growing team and shaping strategic fire protection solutions. You’ll apply deep fire engineering knowledge, harness advanced simulation technologies, and interpret current and historic codes to deliver practical, cost-effective fire strategies. You’ll lead projects from investigation to design, while mentoring staff, cultivating client relationships, and contributing to R&D and industry presence. Responsibilities

• Lead and develop the fire engineering practice in the UK/Europe
• Provide technical expertise and apply fire engineering principles across projects
• Collaborate with cross-functional project teams and leverage simulation tech
• Interpret building codes and translate into practical fire strategies
• Perform rapid assessment and design for existing buildings and new designs
• Investigate, troubleshoot, and design for facade fires and other failures
• Mentor and build a team to meet practice growth
• Pursue client relationship development and opportunities for new work
• Contribute to in-house R&D initiatives and industry involvement

Key requirements

• Chartered Fire Engineer
• Advanced degree in fire engineering or related field
• 10+ years of relevant industry experience
• Proven leadership in building and managing a small practice or designated practice area
• Independent, resourceful, collaborative with strong communication
• Ability to win and manage client relationships and deliver practical solutions
