Business Product Manager – Operations

Overview

As a product and operations expert within Ascot’s underwriting ecosystem, you will help optimize and govern underwriting products, processes, and IT changes. You’ll act as a liaison between Underwriting and IT, driving continuous improvement and ensuring alignment with strategic objectives. You will oversee project sequencing, monitor benefits, and support data-driven decision making across cross-functional teams. This role offers visibility into the Fusion Model and a culture focused on collaboration, resilience, and underwriting excellence. You will influence transformational initiatives that shape how we deploy capital and deliver world-class service.

Responsibilities

• Review and improve existing underwriting products and workflows to deliver better outcomes for underwriting teams
• Troubleshoot operational issues and propose solutions within Underwriting
• Identify and monitor operational risks; implement mitigation where possible
• Analyze business processes and opportunities for automation with underwriting teams
• Stay informed on regulatory and technical changes affecting underwriting
• Provide SME technical support on projects and participate in workshops
• Build relationships with key stakeholders across Operations, IT, Finance, Reinsurance, Claims, Pricing, and Actuarial
• Support funding decisions for discretionary underwriting initiatives and track benefits
• Coordinate large-scale transformation projects and contribute to data warehouse development
• Develop, implement, and manage OKRs and KPIs aligned to Ascot’s strategic objectives
• Assist the Director of Operational Strategy with ad-hoc requests

Key requirements

• Lloyd’s Market, General Insurance or Broking experience (Must Have)
• Core concepts of Insurance—Underwriting, Reinsurance, Finance, Compliance, Claims (Must Have)
• Background in Underwriting or Underwriting Operations from BAU or project work (Must Have)
• Understanding of underwriting concepts and accounting principles
• BPI methodologies and experience improving operations
• Process mapping and As-Is/To-Be documentation experience
• Ability to formulate and defend project funding proposals
• SQL querying for data manipulation and analysis
• Risk management knowledge
• Experience across full project lifecycle (Waterfall, Agile, Hybrid)
• Strong Microsoft suite skills (Excel, Visio, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook)
