Construction Buyer

Overview

You will drive cost-effective procurement of plant, materials and services for civil engineering projects in the North West. In this role you will partner with site teams, estimators and finance to ensure accurate records and strong supplier relationships. You will support tender pricing, invoice matching and supplier performance, contributing to on-time project delivery. This position sits within a collaborative procurement function that values development and long-term partnerships. Responsibilities

• Procure plant hire, construction materials and related services
• Raise purchase orders and maintain procurement records
• Compare supplier quotations and perform cost analysis
• Liaise with site teams on plant and material requirements
• Assist estimators with material pricing for tenders and bids
• Check and authorise supplier invoices against purchase orders
• Resolve invoice and supplier queries
• Support month-end processes with the accounts team
• Maintain supplier and subcontractor databases, including insurance records
• Monitor stock levels and update internal databases
• Support supplier reviews and procurement agreements
• Carry out general procurement and administrative duties

Key requirements

• Previous purchasing or buying experience in the construction industry
• Experience procuring plant hire and construction materials
• Strong administrative and organisational skills
• Ability to work accurately under pressure and to deadlines
• Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
