Cyber Security Engineer

Overview

As a Cyber Security Engineer, you will help protect IT infrastructure within a UK government-focused programme, leading security implementation and assurance on a defence project. You will work within a skilled team to transition an IT application to live operations while maintaining strong protection against threats. The role emphasizes vulnerability management, endpoint security, and security policy enforcement to ensure compliance. Responsibilities

• Vulnerability Scanning & Reporting: perform regular scans and generate reports to support vulnerability management
• Endpoint Security: keep endpoints compliant with updates, policies, and antivirus/anti-malware controls
• Incident Management & Tickets: identify, respond to incidents, and handle security-related tickets
• System Hardening: apply patches, ensure compliance with security standards, and enforce system controls
• Change Work: evaluate security impact of changes and participate in security testing & assurance
• Participation in Regular Meetings: lead or attend security-focused meetings and workshops
• Documentation: produce and maintain HLD/LLD, SOPs, and compliance reports

Key requirements

• Experience in protecting IT infrastructure and applying security controls
• Familiarity with vulnerability management tooling and code scanning
• Proven incident response capabilities and ticket handling
• System hardening, patching, and compliance activities
• Understanding of security standards (CIS, STIG, NIST)
• Security-related collaboration and communication skills
• Clearance: DV and SC (or ability to obtain)
