Band 7 Substance Use Team Leader – Weston-super-Mare

Overview

In this role you will lead a defined drug, alcohol and gambling harm service for veterans across the Southwest within Op Courage. You will develop pathways with local partners, monitor KPIs, and ensure access to accredited services and trauma-focused interventions. You will manage a small caseload and oversee evidence-based planning and evaluation. You will promote service promotion and cross-team training.

Responsibilities

• Lead operational management of the community team and deliver safe, effective services.
• Oversee service delivery across your area in line with strategy and business plans.
• Develop and refine service strategy for the patient group and identify improvement needs.
• Contribute to governance, risk management, and local delivery unit ownership.
• Ensure compliance with Health and Safety, data entry, incident review, and complaints processes.
• Manage staffing, caseloads, recruitment, induction, appraisal, supervision, and rostering.
• Maintain budgets and financial planning within trust financial controls.
• Lead service redesign and implementation of practice aligned with national policies and evidence
• Engage with key partners, third sector, commissioners, and service user representatives to ensure coordinated care.
• Promote diversity and culturally sensitive service planning and delivery.
• Investigate serious untoward incidents, complaints, and disciplinary actions as required.
• Support information packs, contingency planning, and out-of-hours responses to unplanned events.

Key requirements

• Degree-level education or equivalent knowledge and experience
• Significant experience in managing health and/or social care staff and services
• Experience of managing complex caseloads/workload demands
• Experience in developing and maintaining internal and external partnerships
• Significant experience leading a substance use service
• Excellent communication, influencing, negotiation and empathetic skills
