Project Controls Manager – Energy & Natural Resource

Overview

In this role you lead cross-disciplinary project controls teams for a nuclear client, delivering robust planning, cost control and risk management to meet time, cost and quality targets. You will define governance, performance baselines and reporting to enable informed management decisions. Your work supports complex programmes within a growing Energy & Natural Resources division, contributing to a high-impact mission of sustainable, efficient project delivery.

Responsibilities

• Lead cross-discipline project controls teams to deliver robust controls services and continuous process improvement
• Define and implement project controls approaches across project, programme and portfolio levels for effective decision making
• Establish governance and assurance processes around project controls products
• Ensure adherence to NEC/FIDIC contract processes for controls data and deliverables
• Collaborate with client teams to develop work breakdown structures and control products
• Define integrated, scalable project controls approaches and document (e.g., Project Control System Definition)
• Manage scope, exclusions, assumptions, interfaces and dependencies; coordinate scope decomposition
• Create a robust Performance Measurement Baseline and manage change control with the IPT
• Collaborate with Supplier Project Controls contract requirements and integrate supplier performance data
• Ensure integration of scope, cost, risk and schedule to provide delivery insights
• Coach client and junior team members on performance and reporting management
• Assure quality, accuracy, and integrity of project controls outputs
• Undertake line management tasks including career development and performance management
• Interact with senior management on performance updates in complex environments
• Guide use of Primavera P6, Power BI, and Excel for performance management, analysis and reporting
• Foster positive change, proactive collaboration and respectful teamwork

Key requirements

• Senior experience applying multiple Project Controls disciplines (Planning, Cost Estimation, Cost Management, Risk Management or Reporting) across lifecycle projects
• Nuclear sector experience desirable but not essential
• Strong knowledge of project controls software and cross-team coordination
• Excellent verbal and written communication; ability to lead, influence, coach and develop teams
• BPSS security clearance eligibility
• Member of a relevant professional body (e.g., APM, PMI)
• Experience integrating Project Controls disciplines and assessing team maturity
• Experience with Primavera P6, Active Risk Manager, Ecosys or similar tools
• Ability to make risk-based decisions under uncertainty
• Strong leadership, stakeholder management and conflict navigation
• Desire to work in the nuclear sector
