Overview

As a Project Controls Manager, you lead a multi-disciplinary controls team on major UK construction projects, embedding robust baselines and effective controls to monitor progress, manage risk, and mitigate slippage. You will collaborate with the client’s Project Manager and supply chain to drive delivery, schedule and cash flow KPIs, and influence principal contractors and stakeholders. The role sits at the core of delivering successful project outcomes within Turner & Townsend’s growth-focused, entrepreneurial culture. You will shape project controls strategy and strive for value-driven outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Embed a robust breakdown structure by consolidating data from controls functions
  • Lead estimating sessions to set a market-tested cost baseline with value-for-money focus
  • Coordinate planning sessions to develop an achievable master schedule baseline
  • Incorporate procurement lead times and prioritise ordering to meet install dates
  • Manage risk processes with qualitative and quantitative assessments for cost/schedule predictability
  • Stakeholder management ensuring baseline sign-off and visibility of progress
  • Maintain an update process for schedule, interfaces, cost, risk, and changes
  • Guide principal contractor and client to drive delivery and achieve schedule and cash flow KPIs
  • Control costs with knowledge of conceptual estimating, funding stage gates, contingencies and procurement principles
  • Apply quality checks to the master program updates from client and principal contractor
  • Lead change management processes for timely tracking, monitoring, and approvals
  • Identify trends and root causes of deviations and report remedial actions for client value

Key requirements

  • Proven experience delivering Controls in a major project/programme environment
  • Experience managing a multi-functional controls team
  • Proficiency with Primavera (P6), Power BI, Microsoft Office
  • Knowledge of engineering, procurement, contracts, construction, and start-up work processes
  • Knowledge of engineering and construction management
  • Experience leading collaborative workshops
  • Reliable with ability to work autonomously and as part of a team
  • Strong time management skills and ability to meet deadlines
  • Highly motivated and client-focused with ability to work independently
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Flexible with travel, including readiness for remote work as needed
