Planning and Project Controls Manager

Overview

In this role you lead planning and project controls for Murphy’s energy transmission projects, coordinating with cross-functional teams to develop integrated, first-principles programmes. You will manage the planning team, ensure robust controls and governance, and drive client-facing reporting and risk management. Your work supports ongoing project wins and delivery across multiple countries, shaping schedules, risk response and value delivery. This is a hands-on leadership role with travel to project sites and collaboration with Operations, Commercial and Planning teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead the planning team on a day-to-day basis
• Drive implementation of planning and project controls procedures and processes
• Manage external planning resources and/or line management of planners
• Develop capability to deliver high-quality planning outputs
• Audit planning requirements to improve compliance and performance
• Oversee use of enterprise planning tools and ensure data integrity
• Contribute to business unit and sector plans and strategies
• Review client-specific planning requirements and ensure contract alignment
• Develop and maintain integrated, whole-life programmes from first principles
• Ensure accurate reporting of progress, risks, and issues to clients and internal stakeholders
• Apply change control for time impacts related to delay, disruption and change
• Maintain alignment between Operations, Commercial and Planning teams on project information
• Support risk identification, management, and mitigation in planning and projects
• Facilitate planning sessions to resolve risks and issues
• Support tender planning to ensure deliverable, compliant programmes
• Ensure programmes are updated and submitted per contract requirements

Key requirements

• Experience as Planning and Project Controls Manager
• Experience managing a team of planners
• Contract and tender planning experience within a Tier 1 contractor
• Fully proficient in Primavera P6 planning software
• Stakeholder management experience (client-facing planning and performance meetings)
• Experience in mentoring, coaching and professional development
