Senior Cost Controls Specialist

Overview

In this role you will strengthen the costing discipline at McDermott while mentoring peers and solving complex problems. You will work within project controls to set up systems, forecast costs, manage variances, and support change management. You will collaborate across Engineering, Procurement, Fabrication, and Construction to ensure accurate cost performance and progress. This position supports a wide range of projects from subsea to offshore wind, contributing to safe, sustainable energy delivery. You drive reliable forecasts and cost reporting that inform commercial decisions and project strategies.

Responsibilities

• Understand constructability concepts and interdependencies between Engineering, Procurement, Fabrication, and Construction
• Set up and maintain project controls systems and reports
• Adhere to internal project controls processes
• Analyze cost forecasting and trending; recommend recovery plans
• Prepare monthly project forecasts
• Assist finance with cash flows and cost spread
• Participate in proposal development, commercial alignment, and project kickoffs
• Train junior personnel in cost reporting
• Monitor scope variations and assess impacts
• Lead change management, including cost estimates and contract amendments
• Support Change Management process and subcontract management verification of progress and earned value
• Support determining monthly accruals with accounts payable
• Monitor cost coding system accuracy and information flow
• Analyze committed costs vs actuals, performance, and productivity
• Perform other related duties as required

Key requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or 7-10 years of experience in a similar role
• Good knowledge of MS Office
• Problem-solving attitude and high coordination skills
• Ability to understand project scope, schedule, and its relation to cost and progress
• Effective prioritization of multiple tasks and meeting deadlines
• Experience in working with multifunctional teams
• Good working knowledge of cost, schedule, estimating, and accounting interfaces
• Basic understanding of JD Edwards is a plus
