Accounts Payable Manager

Overview

In this role you lead the AP and Expenses function, guiding a UK and overseas team to process payments accurately and on time. You collaborate with Treasury and Finance to improve processes, ensure VAT recovery, and maintain strong supplier relationships. You’ll drive performance, provide coaching, and develop reporting to support financial control and business change. This role offers exposure to global AP operations within a dynamic, values-driven environment.

Responsibilities

• Serve as SME for Accounts Payable and Expenses
• Lead and motivate the AP/Expenses team in the UK and overseas
• Review aged creditors and reconcile to GL (weekly/d Monthly)
• Oversee weekly payment runs and liaise with Financial Controller for Europe
• Ensure timely payment processing and resolve issues
• Amend/reverse/correct posted documents as needed
• Handle urgent payments and complex supplier accounts
• Ensure valid documentation and VAT recovery in liaison with Tax
• Monitor PO/invoice holds; resolve queries
• Connect CIS returns with ledger entries and sign off submissions
• Close month-end with accurate trial balance and sub-ledger reports
• Sign off bank payments and coordinate with Treasury
• Educate the wider business on changes; drive transformations
• Develop AP reporting to monitor performance and system effectiveness
• Support statutory reporting timeliness and process improvements
• Foster cross-functional relationships with stakeholders and other transactional teams
• Lead system and process development for AP with Finance and Transformation
• Represent AP in weekly finance team meetings
• Perform other duties aligned with the role

Key requirements

• Extensive AP and expenses management experience with automated AP systems
• Oracle AP sub-ledger experience required
• Global experience essential, especially across Europe
• Finance qualification (AAT or equivalent)
