Commercial Finance Analyst

Overview

In this role you partner with the Global CTO and leadership to turn financial data into actionable insights that guide investments and performance. You’ll own budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning for Commercial Software, delivering reporting and KPI monitoring to drive transparency in a growing tech environment. You will build models and business cases to support strategic decisions and improve data quality with BI tools. This is a high-visibility role focused on maximizing business value through sound financial stewardship.

Responsibilities

• Partner with the Global CTO and leadership team to translate financial information into actionable insights
• Own budgeting, forecasting, and FP&A processes for the Commercial Software teams
• Deliver month-end reporting, variance analysis, and commentary on actual vs budget/forecast
• Monitor and report key software KPIs (headcount, cloud spend, SaaS licensing, project profitability)
• Develop financial models, investment appraisals, and business cases for strategic decisions
• Support capex/opex classification and development cost capitalisation
• Challenge cost and investment decisions to maximise value
• Improve reporting processes and data quality via BI tools and best practices
• Provide ad hoc analysis and commercial support for initiatives, contracts, and pricing decisions

Key requirements

• Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA)
• 3+ years PQE in Commercial Finance, FP&A, or business partnering
• Strong stakeholder management and business partnering skills
• Advanced Excel (complex formulas, lookups, pivots)
• Strong financial modelling capability
• Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis
• Commercially minded with strong analytical capability
• Experience supporting Commercial Software, Product, Engineering teams or senior technology leaders
• Understanding of development cost capitalisation and SaaS metrics
• Experience in a technology or SaaS business preferred
• Power BI or similar BI/reporting tool experience preferred
• Comfortable using AI tools such as Claude or ChatGPT
