Overview

As a Principal RF Engineer at Leonardo in Edinburgh, you will lead RF/ microwave design across the hardware lifecycle to deliver the GCAP Multifunction RF System. You’ll work within the MRFS team to shape a Technology Demonstrator Programme for next-gen fire control radar. The role blends system concept, detailed design, prototyping, testing, and production support, with a strong emphasis on collaboration and technical leadership. You’ll mentor junior engineers and ensure robust, manufacturable designs that meet stringent security requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Own full hardware lifecycle from concept to production support for RF, PCB, and module designs
  • Lead design reviews, documentation, configuration management, and progress reporting
  • Develop multifunctional RF PCB/Module designs using latest technologies
  • Design for test with prototypes and validation of development models
  • Prepare manufacturing data packs and provide support to subcontractors and manufacturing interface
  • Collaborate with Systems, Test and Electronics engineers to solve integration challenges
  • Coach and mentor junior engineers to build a high-performance team for GCAP delivery

Key requirements

  • 5+ years of RF circuit design and analysis
  • Strong understanding of microwave techniques and electromagnetic theory
  • Ability to lead in a collaborative team environment
  • Degree in Electrical & Electronic Engineering (preferred) or related science
