Laboratory Project and Change Manager

Overview

In this role you will drive strategic laboratory projects and end-to-end change initiatives within Abbott Toxicology’s UK operations. You’ll bridge scientific processes with structured project management to deliver improvements in quality, efficiency, and compliance. You’ll collaborate with quality and commercial teams to implement transformations in a highly regulated environment. The position combines hands-on lab knowledge with governance, risk management, and stakeholder engagement to enable measurable business impact.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a strategic view of live and pipeline laboratory projects and changes, ensuring alignment with business goals
• Keep up-to-date technical knowledge of toxicology methods and lab workflows
• Own laboratory change initiatives and drive end-to-end delivery within Quality Management System governance
• Identify opportunities to improve workflows using Continuous Improvement methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma, automation, digitisation)
• Lead, plan and deliver scientific and operational projects with clear documentation, scope, benefits, and schedules
• Identify and manage risks, issues, dependencies; allocate resources and budget where needed
• Provide regular progress updates to the Laboratory Operations Director and stakeholders across the business
• Develop and execute communication plans to support change adoption and alignment across teams
• Quantify and track realized benefits; ensure changes transition to business-as-usual and capture lessons learned
• Collaborate with Laboratory Operations Manager and Head of Scientific Services to meet departmental objectives

Key requirements

• BSc in Analytical Chemistry, Toxicology, Pharmacology or related discipline, or equivalent laboratory experience
• Proven experience in project management and delivering change initiatives in regulated environments
• Experience with SOPs and ISO 9001 and 17025 accreditations
• IT literacy with strong skills in Project management, Word, Excel and Outlook
• Lean practitioner or Six Sigma Belt (preferred)
• Advanced degrees or certifications (e.g., PMP, PRINCE2) (preferred)
• Laboratory experience in immunoassay screening and LCMS/MS (preferred)
• Experience with LIMS or digital transformation (preferred)
