Overview

In this role you lead commercial activities on the K30 Tie-In project, ensuring accurate measurement, valuation, and recovery under NEC Option B. You will partner with the Head of Commercial and Change Manager to align physical progress with contractual entitlement and project forecasts. Your work supports robust cash performance and timely commercial reporting while mitigating risks. This is an onsite, delivery-focused senior position shaping project outcomes through sound commercial judgment and leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Take day-to-day commercial management of the K30 Tie-In works
  • Maintain understanding of scope, prices, BoQ, and contractual obligations
  • Provide commercial advice to Project Manager and delivery team
  • Escalate commercial risks and opportunities to Head of Commercial
  • Lead measurement and valuation under NEC Option B
  • Ensure quantities claimed are supported by drawings and evidence
  • Maintain robust measurement records for entitlement and client review
  • Regularly reconcile tender, current, completed, and forecast quantities
  • Identify quantity growth or reduction early and assess implications
  • Differentiate between remeasurement and Scope changes causing Compensation Events
  • Prepare and manage timely applications for payment
  • Maximise contractual recovery with measurement evidence
  • Reconcile applications with certified amounts and challenge discrepancies
  • Maintain visibility of progress, value, cash, and WIP for forecast
  • Maintain accurate commercial forecast and cost-to-complete assessments
  • Reconcile actual vs committed cost and identify cost trends
  • Provide timely commercial reporting to Head of Commercial and project leadership
  • Lead and develop Quantity Surveyors and commercial staff
  • Promote commercially aware culture across the project team
  • Maintain final-account-ready commercial records throughout delivery
  • Drive timely agreement of final quantities and close-out
  • Ensure compensation events are incorporated into prices and forecasts
  • Coordinate with Change Manager on events with commercial consequences
  • Support procurement and subcontract/supply package evaluation
  • Review POs and subcontract values against forecast
  • Identify gaps between Scope, procurement, and budget
  • Maintain detailed visibility of commercial risks and opportunities
  • Develop mitigation and recovery actions with project leadership
  • Provide accurate and concise commercial reporting of value, costs, and risk
  • Ensure outputs align with underlying project records and financial systems
  • Ensure timely commercial coverage across works
  • Review quality of commercial outputs and mentor less experienced staff
  • Maintain commercial records for final-account readiness
  • Progress measurement, CE management, and subcontract accounts toward agreement
  • Drive early identification and escalation of commercial issues
  • Achieve commercial closure throughout delivery

Key requirements

  • Significant Quantity Surveying/commercial management experience on major engineering, construction, energy or infrastructure projects
  • Strong NEC3/NEC4 contracts experience, preferably Option B
  • Experience with measurement and valuation on complex construction projects
  • Understanding of Compensation Events and their interaction with change, measurement, cost, and schedule
  • Experience managing subcontractor accounts from procurement to final account
  • Strong cost-control, forecasting and financial reporting skills
  • Ability to interpret drawings, Scope documents, Bills of Quantities/Price Lists and commercial schedules
  • Experience with contract-management systems such as Sypro and project financial systems
  • Degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or related discipline
  • RICS membership or progress towards qualification (desirable)
