Engineering Manager

Overview

In this Engineering Manager role at Monzo, you lead delivery and engineering excellence across a squad of engineers within cross-functional teams. You own technical and delivery outcomes, coach engineers, and foster an inclusive, high-performing environment. You partner with senior engineers to drive initiatives and communicate with stakeholders to align on priorities. This role combines people, product, and technical leadership to shape impactful engineering work at a fast-growing fintech.

Responsibilities

• Take accountability for delivery across your squad(s) in collaboration with the Technical Lead and Product Manager
• Raise the bar for engineering excellence within your teams
• Manage and develop a group of ~7-10 engineers with regular coaching and feedback
• Partner with senior engineers to drive technical initiatives that raise engineering standards
• Lead communication with stakeholders to create focus for engineers to deliver effectively
• Collaborate with the wider engineering organization to shape company-wide practices and standards

Key requirements

• Experienced manager with a strong technical and delivery background, previously worked as a software engineer
• Comfort operating in ambiguous problem areas with high autonomy
• Delivery track record and ability to guide squads to outcomes
• Focus on outcomes over processes and ability to optimise for impact
• Ability to input, challenge engineering decisions, and empower teams to decide
• Understanding of what constitutes a high-performing engineering team and how to reach it
• Ability to coach people to achieve their goals and inspire the team
