Senior Naval Architect

Overview

In this Senior Naval Architect role, you will influence the safety, capability, and availability of the Royal Navy’s submarine fleet from the Bristol Technology Centre. You’ll support through-life maintenance and engineering optimisation across lifecycle stages, collaborating with MoD, Royal Navy, and industry partners. The work directly supports national security and involves cross-functional delivery of complex structural requirements. This is a senior, impact-driven position in a high-security defence context.

Responsibilities

• Manage structural maintenance requirements across the submarine lifecycle
• Support through-life asset management, maintenance planning and engineering optimisation
• Collaborate with stakeholders across Babcock, the Royal Navy, MOD and industry partners
• Assess structural engineering requirements, surveillance activities and defect rectification programmes
• Drive continuous improvement while adhering to engineering policies and standards

Key requirements

• Naval Architect with knowledge of platform maintenance, structural surveillance and/or defect rectification
• Strong understanding of structural engineering principles in complex environments
• Ability to build effective relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders
• Strong communication and presentation skills
• Experience identifying and implementing engineering or process improvement initiatives
• Degree qualified in Naval Architecture or related engineering discipline with significant structural engineering experience
• Incorporated Engineer (IEng) status with plan to achieve Chartered Engineer (CEng) status
• Security Clearance (SC) suitability for UK national security roles
