Overview

Join Portsmouth Naval Base as a Naval Architect to support the Royal Navy’s surface fleet. You will work in the Naval Architecture team delivering specialist capability across diverse projects, gaining hands-on waterfront ship engineering exposure. You’ll perform analyses, contribute to ship modifications and drydocking, and support through-life maintenance and naval base facilities. Responsibilities

• Conduct structural analyses using ANSYS Workbench
• Perform stability analyses using Paramarine naval architecture software
• Participate in inclining experiments and post-experiment analysis
• Design ship modifications and capability upgrades
• Provide technical analysis for drydocking of ships
• Support through-life maintenance and base facilities with naval architecture expertise
• Contribute to concept upgrade design, detailed design, build support, and in-service support for surface ships and base facilities
• Consult on naval base facilities requiring naval-architecture knowledge

Key requirements

• MEng in Naval Architecture / Marine Technology / Ship Science
• Experience of structural analysis using ANSYS Workbench (advantageous)
• Familiarity with PARAMARINE (advantageous)
• Experience with CAD software such as AutoCAD, Inventor (advantageous)
