Civil Engineer (Structural)

Overview

In this senior civil engineering role, you act as a Technical Lead within the SZ2201 contract, guiding civil design and technical assurance for the Sizewell C programme. You’ll support the Nuclear Island design framework, oversee contractor queries, and ensure designs meet UK nuclear standards. You will collaborate across client entities and delivery teams to drive compliant, high-quality civil solutions. This is a chance to shape major nuclear infrastructure and apply lessons from HPC to current SZ projects. Responsibilities

• Provide expert technical support on building-specific civil engineering topics and produce key deliverables
• Review technical documents, lead alignment meetings, and oversee technical oversight activities
• Assist with technical specification reviews and establish surveillance programmes with reporting
• Embed lessons learnt from HPC into SZ2201 contract activities
• Ensure contractor compliance with specifications and standards
• Lead resolution of complex TQs, design changes, and contractual clarifications
• Develop and refine contract management tools to improve workflow efficiency
• Act as primary technical liaison across client entities, delivery teams, and external stakeholders

Key requirements

• Minimum 10 years post-graduate civil design experience in complex/heavy civil or regulated infrastructure projects
• Nuclear sector experience desirable, with familiarity of UK project design sequences or HPC civil scopes
• Bachelor in Civil Engineering (or Master) and strong knowledge of civil structures, CW codes/standards, and soil geotechnics
• Solid understanding of UK Health & Safety regulations (HSWA 1974, CDM 2015)
• Technical leadership in contractor surveillance, resolving civil design challenges and guiding teams
• Contractual acumen in leading discussions, ensuring contractor compliance, and handling technical queries
