Overview
In this role you will provide strategic leadership for the Creative Writing discipline within UCL Arts and Sciences, directing both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. You will shape the Creative Writing MA and related BA curricula, integrating creative practice with literary culture, publishing, and public engagement. You will lead world-class research, foster grant activity, supervise doctoral students, and build collaborations with publishers and cultural partners. Based at Bloomsbury with travel to UCL East, you will advance interdisciplinary approaches and contribute to national and international debates in the field. Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership for the Creative Writing discipline
- Shape and oversee undergraduate and postgraduate programmes (Creative Writing MA and BA)
- Lead module development and teaching across programmes
- Conduct and lead world-class research, publish outputs, and pursue grants
- Develop research culture through conferences, networks, and collaborations
- Supervise doctoral students and provide mentoring for academic colleagues
- Act as Personal Academic Tutor and participate in student supervision
- Travel to UCL East for departmental activities and teaching
- Contribute to curriculum development and strategic partnerships with publishers and cultural institutions
Key requirements
- Doctoral level education or equivalent professional experience in creative writing
- Proven teaching experience in creative writing and curriculum development
- internationally recognised distinction with published work and influence on discipline
- Strategic academic leadership and ability to build partnerships with publishers and cultural institutions
- Mentoring and development of colleagues and postdoctoral researchers
- Experience working with external organisations beyond academia (desirable)
