Overview
In this Art Director role, you own RuneScape’s visual language across environments, characters, UI, VFX, lighting and cinematics, shaping the game’s next era. You lead a large, cross-disciplinary art team, defining quality standards and ensuring consistent in-game execution for PC and mobile. You collaborate with senior directors to align artistic priorities with gameplay and roadmaps, driving cosmetic content quality and the long-term creative strategy. Responsibilities
- Own and evolve RuneScape’s visual direction across environments, characters, UI, VFX, lighting and cinematics while maintaining established identity
- Lead and develop a large multidisciplinary art team, refining structure, capabilities and craft standards
- Set and maintain a clear quality bar with actionable feedback to improve visual consistency and in-game execution
- Drive end-to-end improvements to cosmetic content, boosting quality and perceived value while supporting commercial goals
- Partner with Creative, Development and Product Directors to align art priorities with gameplay goals and production needs
- Collaborate with Technical Art and Engineering to improve pipelines, tools and workflows for PC and mobile
- Champion accessibility, readability and player experience across platforms
- Represent the art discipline in recruitment, talent development and long-term creative strategy
Key requirements
- Significant experience in Art Direction or senior art leadership in games, including shipped or live titles
- Proven ability to translate artistic vision into in-game execution while balancing ambition with live-service schedules and technical constraints
- Experience leading a sizeable multidisciplinary art team, with performance management and organizational change
- Strong background directing stylised or stylised-realistic 3D art, with knowledge of 3D pipelines, production tools, optimization and constraints
- A strong portfolio showing artistic vision, problem-solving and consistent quality across multiple art disciplines
- Desirable experience joining and improving an established or live game rather than only early-stage direction
