Building Maintenance Fabric Engineer

Overview

In this role you will provide hands-on building fabric, plumbing and general maintenance to ensure a safe, compliant site. You will join a multi-disciplinary facilities team and take ownership of tasks from identification to completion, supporting PPM and reactive maintenance while coordinating with supervisors and contractors. The role includes an on-site on-call rota and contributes to a professional, reliable environment. This position offers hands-on impact on site operations and opportunities for growth within a large FM provider.

Responsibilities

• Perform planned and reactive building fabric maintenance across the site
• Carry out repairs to doors, fixtures, walls, ceilings, flooring and other fabric elements
• Undertake basic plumbing repairs (taps, toilets, sinks, drains, leaks) within competence
• Complete allocated PPM tasks per schedule and standards
• Respond to reactive maintenance requests and safely contain issues when permanent fixes aren’t immediate
• Own maintenance tasks from identification to close-out and escalate when needed
• Identify defects and potential works during inspections and liaise with supervisors for quotations
• Execute approved quoted works and assist with minor projects and customer requests
• Support other team members and liaise with specialist contractors as required
• Maintain safe handling of tools and records in the maintenance management system
• Communicate professionally with stakeholders and uphold housekeeping and safety standards
• Follow site procedures, risk assessments and safety requirements and report concerns
• Support wider facilities team to maintain a safe, reliable working environment

Key requirements

• Previous experience in Building Fabric Engineer or similar facilities role
• Good practical knowledge of general building fabric maintenance
• Experience with basic plumbing repairs
• Experience in commercial/industrial/facilities management environment
• Understanding of PPM and reactive maintenance
• Strong fault-finding and problem-solving ability
• Ability to determine containment vs escalation needs
• Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team and manage workloads
• Good health and safety understanding
• Strong communication and customer service skills
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
• Flexible approach to additional customer requirements
• Relevant trade or maintenance qualifications or equivalent experience (advantageous)
• Full UK driving licence where required
