Electrical Shift Building Maintenance Engineer

Overview

In this role you will ensure safe operation and both planned and reactive maintenance of electrical and mechanical systems across the hospital site. You will work within a shift-based team reporting to the Shift Lead, supporting capital works and refurbishment projects. You will diagnose faults, perform installations, and manage specialist contractors to maintain essential building services. The opportunity combines hands-on maintenance with safety and compliance responsibilities in a mission-critical healthcare environment.

Responsibilities

• Safe operation and maintenance of electrical and mechanical systems and equipment
• Carry out planned and reactive maintenance, repairs, installation, refurbishment and capital works
• Maintain HVAC systems, gas appliances, Piped Medical Gas systems, steam plant and associated equipment
• Prepare pressure vessels for insurance inspections and carry out repairs/testing
• Oversee subcontractors and ensure safe permit-to-work practices
• Ensure PPM and reactive tasks meet contract timescales
• Collaborate with internal teams and provide effective communication
• Work a 4-on 4-off shift pattern totaling 38.5 hours per week

Key requirements

• Recognised electrical trade apprenticeship or relevant qualifications to Level 2 or 3
• 18th Edition certification
• Thorough understanding of building services installation and maintenance
• Knowledge of M&E testing, fault finding, refurbishment and installation
• Ability to read technical drawings and diagnose faults
• Independent working capability and ability to work in a team
• Willingness to cross-skill and develop
