Consultant Psychiatrist – CAMHS Learning Disability

Overview

In this role you will provide expert psychiatric leadership within the LD CAMHS service, supporting children and young people with moderate to profound intellectual disabilities and co-morbid mental health needs. You will work with a multidisciplinary team, liaising across local services to develop care plans and improve outcomes. The role blends clinical oversight with service development and education, within a transforming, inclusive Trust. A tailored management leadership programme is available for interested clinicians.

Responsibilities

• Provide consultation and liaison to Tier 2 and 3 clinicians for Richmond and Kingston residents; coordinate referrals to Tier 4; educate and support Tier 1 referrers
• Provide clinical support and psychiatric oversight for the LD CAMHS team
• Deliver emergency consultation, liaison, advice, and management to professionals within the team and wider network
• Collaborate with young people, parents, and carers to develop and implement effective care plans
• Contribute to multidisciplinary and multiagency packages of care for complex presentations via consultation and joint-working

Key requirements

• Three years minimum of full-time training in approved Higher Psychiatric Training
• Detailed knowledge of treatment approaches for severe mental illness including psychopharmacological interventions
• Minimum two years experience working with children/adolescents in a multidisciplinary setting
• Experience with learning disabilities/neurodevelopmental disorders
• GMC registration with Licence to Practice; CCT Specialist Registration or eligible; Approved Clinician status or able to achieve within 3 months; MHA Section 12(2) approval or able to achieve within 3 months
