Overview
As Data Privacy Manager you will provide independent privacy guidance to the business, supporting the Data Protection Officer in managing privacy risk and regulatory obligations. You will bridge technical data protection expertise with governance and stakeholder engagement to embed strong practices across AJ Bell. The role involves practical DPIA review, handling data subject rights, breach management, and overseeing privacy reporting and governance activities. You will help shape AJ Bell’s privacy framework and drive continuous improvement within a regulated environment. Responsibilities
- Provide clear, practical data protection guidance to stakeholders across the business
- Review and advise on DPIAs for new initiatives, products, systems and changes
- Support management of personal data breaches including investigation, risk assessment, reporting and remediation
- Review and advise on data subject rights requests ensuring timely, compliant handling
- Produce monthly privacy MI and deliver insights for oversight and decision‑making
- Support preparation of the Annual Data Privacy Report and other governance reporting
- Provide appropriate challenge and oversight of privacy risks, controls and compliance activities
- Support privacy training and awareness initiatives
- Monitor changes in data protection law and guidance and translate to AJ Bell impact
- Contribute to ongoing development and improvement of the privacy framework
Key requirements
- Strong technical knowledge of UK GDPR, DPA 2018 and PECR
- Experience in data protection, privacy, risk or compliance roles
- Experience in financial services or a regulated environment
- Practical experience with DPIAs, data breaches and data subject rights
- Understanding of privacy risk management and controls
- Ability to interpret legislation and translate into pragmatic advice
- Strong stakeholder management and influence skills
- Analytical, investigative and problem-solving abilities
- Experience producing management information and governance reporting
- Excellent organisational skills and prioritisation abilities
- Qualifications: BCS Practitioner Certificate in Data Protection, CIPP/E, CIPM or equivalent (or equivalent)
