Overview

As a UK-qualified lawyer at iwoca, you will advise on commercial and regulatory matters across our UK businesses, partnering with product, compliance, and business teams. You’ll shape regulated products for SMEs, support new ventures like Manda, Credit Compass, and an insurance brokerage, and streamline legal processes with templates and playbooks. Your work helps balance innovation with regulatory risk in a fast-growth fintech. You’ll liaise with external counsel and contribute to a data-informed, learning culture.

Responsibilities

• Provide regulatory and commercial advice to the credit card product team and regulated services for SMEs
• Support wider business on commercial and regulatory issues in collaboration with compliance
• Assist new ventures (Manda, Credit Compass, insurance brokerage) with regulatory navigation, contract development, and customer terms
• Identify and implement process improvements, including templates, playbooks, and decision frameworks, potentially augmented by AI tools
• Instruct and manage external legal counsel and oversee legal budget under the General Counsel
• Educate and train other legal team members on areas of expertise
• Gain exposure to a wide range of Fintech products and services through a fast-growing business

Key requirements

• UK qualified lawyer with at least 3 years PQE
• Knowledge of payments regulations (PSRs, EMRs, FCA Handbook) and ability to apply commercially
• Experience drafting and negotiating commercial contracts, including high-value partnerships with regulated institutions
• Strong analytical skills to simplify legal and commercial complexity and provide actionable advice
• Motivated to deliver high-quality work to deadlines, and curious about broader business challenges
• Willingness to learn unfamiliar areas of financial regulation and grow as an internal SME
• Desire to work collaboratively and share knowledge within the team
• Pre-existing interest in using AI tools in legal work (nice to have)
