Senior Property Underwriter

Overview

In this role you will underwrite major Property cases in the London market within the defined risk appetite to drive profitable growth. You will partner with customers, brokers and partners, while guiding junior staff and contributing to policy wordings and pricing with Actuarial input. You will pursue marketing and product development initiatives, and identify up-selling and cross-selling opportunities to expand the business. You will operate in cross-functional teams, stay informed on industry developments and maintain strong customer service and collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Review allocated cases and make underwriting decisions within authority levels to secure profitable business
• Act as a referral point for junior staff and support peer reviews to maintain a strong control environment
• Advise on policy wordings and reviews to ensure accuracy and currency
• Identify and lead or contribute to marketing and product development initiatives to grow penetration and mix
• Travel within the allocated geographical remit as required and pursue up-selling and cross-selling opportunities
• Manage customer interactions to deliver high standards of service
• Provide coaching to less experienced colleagues to raise technical standards
• Coordinate with Actuarial for pricing inputs where appropriate
• Liaise with Claims on claims activity and market concerns affecting profitability
• Stay current with major industry issues and developments
• Maintain low levels of aged debt through accurate records and coordination with Accounts Receivable
• Carry out regular and ad hoc reporting
• Perform other duties as assigned

Key requirements

• 5-10 years experience underwriting major Property accounts in the London market
• Strong marketing, negotiation and presentation skills
• Excellent knowledge of standard market policy and endorsement wordings
• ACII/FCII (professional designation) desirable
• Excellent organization and prioritization abilities
• Excellent interpersonal, analytical and teamwork skills
• Strong verbal and written communication
• Excellent MS Office skills, particularly Excel
