Specialist Doctor in Acute Medicine

Overview

In this role you will provide clinical leadership across AMU, SDEC and general medicine services at QEH. You will leverage extensive acute and general medicine experience to support rotation-based duties in a fast-paced environment. You will work with multidisciplinary teams to improve acute care delivery and contribute to developing future service models. This is a senior, impact-driven post within an NHS trust that values development, collaboration and high-quality patient care.

Responsibilities

• Provide on-site clinical leadership during daily rounds and MDT meetings
• Participate in Medical SDEC service (Mon–Fri 09:00–17:00)
• Contribute to the acute medical take and post-night reviews
• Participate in weekend non-frail GIM rota (1:10)
• Support development of a 7-day AMU service
• Commit to continuous improvement of acute and general medical services
• Coordinate with on-call consultants for admissions and coverage
• Adhere to frailty posttake model and Bournemouth criteria
• Engage in department and trust management and development

Key requirements

• MBBS or equivalent; GMC full registration and licence to practise
• Minimum 12 years clinical experience since qualification; at least 6 years in acute/general medicine at specialty doctor or SAS level
• Meets Specialist Grade generic capabilities framework (AoMRC/BMA/NHS Employers)
• Broad-based training in acute and general medicine
