Senior Political Risk & Credit Underwriter

Overview

In this role you will influence underwriting strategy and product innovation within Munich Re Specialty – Global Markets London. You will apply advanced risk analysis across diverse financing products and maintain high standards of regulatory compliance while satisfying client needs. You’ll build broker and client relationships and lead junior team development. The position offers impact on growth, reputation, and the firm’s political risk and credit underwriting agenda.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to the Political Risk & Credit business plan to drive income and growth
• Underwrite risks within authority following risk appetite and plans
• Prepare internal risk analyses with credit team to support decisions
• Develop and maintain strong client/broker/reinsurer relationships
• Lead coaching and development of junior team members
• Monitor existing book to ensure plan execution and portfolio targets
• Initiate projects and product initiatives to diversify risk and income
• Review and negotiate policy wordings for compliance and certainty
• Conduct portfolio reviews, maintain audit trails, and ensure regulatory alignment
• Provide analytical support including risk reporting and management reporting
• Promote risk controls and engage with stakeholders to deliver customer outcomes

Key requirements

• Advanced knowledge of Underwriting Principles
• Advanced knowledge of Legal Principles and regulatory rules (FCA and Lloyd’s)
• Advanced knowledge of Political Risk & Credit Cover
• Advanced knowledge of Trade and Structured Credit; Political Risk; Political Violence
• Strong understanding of organizational structure and cross-functional collaboration
• Ability to drive growth and innovation in underwriting
