Overview

In this role you will strengthen the internal control framework across the loan product lifecycle, partnering with Product, Compliance and Risk teams to identify and mitigate credit, model and operational risks. You will communicate findings to senior stakeholders and support governance forums with data-driven insights. You will lead cross-functional collaboration to improve control effectiveness, balancing risk management with customer outcomes and sustainable growth. This role offers the opportunity to shape risk governance within a major banking franchise and drive measurable improvements.

Responsibilities

  • Assess the integrity and effectiveness of the internal control framework to mitigate risk
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across banks and units to document controls, assessments, and findings
  • Identify weaknesses and issues in internal controls and promote continuous improvement
  • Produce reports communicating risk findings and recommendations to owners and senior management
  • Execute reviews to evaluate control effectiveness against policies and best practices
  • Ensure adherence to the Barclays Controls Framework and appropriate assessment methodologies
  • Advise and influence decision making and contribute to policy development
  • Lead a team (or guide collaborative assignments) to deliver control and governance activities

Key requirements

  • Experience in banking or financial services with knowledge of regulatory risk management frameworks
  • Knowledge of retail banking products (loans and payments) and related customer/operational risks
  • Experience in risk, controls, or governance functions with exposure to credit, operational, and compliance risk
  • Understanding of FCA regulations, Consumer Duty and PRA expectations in lending
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to translate complex information into actionable recommendations
