Responsibilities
- Effectively lead and direct the Food & Safety Team to ensure that all relevant matters are handled in accordance with statutory requirements and Council policy.
- Monitor the team’s performance to ensure fully contributing to the Council’s strategic objectives.
- Develop and implement processes and working practices to ensure that all enforcement and inspection duties, and goods and services offered are carried out efficiently, effectively and with customer focus.
- Identify opportunities to generate income and work with relevant Officers to implement them.
- Manage a busy and varied workload, including a team of Environmental Health Officers and Technical Officers.
- Provide advice and deal with all issues relating to food inspections, food poisoning, food hygiene, Environmental Health certification and animal licensing.
- Demonstrate vision and leadership while handling casework.

Qualifications, skills and experience
- Environmental Health Degree or Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH) diploma, or Diploma in Environmental Health.
- Knowledge and experience equivalent to the above (e.g., one or more approved qualifications in Food and Health & Safety).
- Management or coaching qualification or proven experience in a management role.
- Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., CIEH).
- Management qualification (ILM Level 3 or higher or equivalent) or relevant experience.
- Understanding of waste and environmental legislation.
- Full UK driving licence.
