Senior Java Developer – London – Fintech

Overview

In this role you will design and develop Java-based trading software for Adaptive’s front-office technology platform. You will work within cross-functional teams to deliver high-performance solutions that underpin capital markets workflows. You will write clean code, participate in Agile processes, and help push engineering excellence across products like Aeron, Hydra, and Artio. This is a hands-on, collaborative role with a strong impact on the speed and reliability of trading systems.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop Java applications and libraries
• Write clean, efficient, and well-documented code
• Troubleshoot and debug Java applications for performance
• Conduct unit testing and ensure code quality
• Participate in code reviews for maintainability and reusability
• Keep up-to-date with Java trends and technologies
• Participate in Agile development and best practices
• Pair with team members to ensure high-quality outcomes

Key requirements

• Experience in Java server-side software development
• Expertise in Java technologies with Core Java (minimum Java 17)
• Knowledge of data injection/IoC
• Experience with messaging technologies
• Familiarity with data structures (sets, hashes, caches)
• Knowledge of concurrency, resiliency, caching, HTTP, REST
• Understanding of Agile software development methodologies
• DevOps collaboration for deployment
• Bug fixing and feature enhancements experience
• Experience with Agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban)
• Excellent communication skills for stakeholders
• Exposure to FIX, ITCH financial protocols
