Fire Risk Assessor

Overview

In this role you will deliver a high-quality fire risk assessment service for residential and building safety–critical properties. You’ll conduct surveys, apply current fire safety guidance, and lead the program’s strategic direction alongside the Lead Fire Risk Assessor. You’ll ensure compliance with legislation and TRG procedures, and maintain the quality of assessments across projects. You’ll work with stakeholders to drive safer buildings and clear reporting, within a mission-focused social housing context.

Responsibilities

• Deliver fire risk assessment service for residential and care-like schemes
• Conduct surveys and follow-up actions to ensure compliance with health and safety, legislation, and TRG procedures
• Take a cooperative lead in strategic direction and delivery of the fire risk assessment programme
• Ensure best practice methods and quality across all fire risk assessment services
• Stay up-to-date with fire safety legislation and guidance and apply it to assessments
• Report to the Lead Fire Risk Assessor and coordinate with internal/external stakeholders

Key requirements

• Experience as a fire risk assessor for residential housing and care schemes; applying BS9792:2025 and PAS 79-1
• Minimum 20+ risk assessments in low to moderate risk buildings; at least 12 months’ relevant experience
• Ability to perform site visits and inspect premises, including access to loft spaces
• Strong risk mitigation understanding and application
• NEBOSH Fire Certificate/Diploma or Certified in Applied Fire Risk Assessment (or equivalent)
• EQF level 3-4 (Level 4 Diploma in Fire Safety or equivalent); ASFP Level 3 or equivalent
• Membership of third-party accreditation scheme (BAFE, LPCB, IFE or equivalent)
• In-depth knowledge of Fire & Building/Structural Safety in Social Housing, including guidance, BS, Building Regulations, and Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005
• Excellent literacy and communication skills; ability to coordinate with diverse stakeholders and present findings
• Experience with evacuation strategies and personal emergency plans
• Proficiency with IT systems/tablet platforms; interrogating databases and updating risk-based programmes
