Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in Hackney
is looking for a resilient, patient and proactive
Teaching Assistant
to support pupils who have struggled to engage with mainstream education.This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience in
PRU, AP, SEMH, challenging behaviour or youth work
who is confident building relationships with young people and helping them re-engage with education.
The Role
Support pupils across
KS3 and KS4
on a 1:1 and small-group basis.Provide classroom and learning support across the curriculum.Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils who may have experienced difficulties in mainstream education.Support with
behaviour management, de-escalation and emotional regulation .Help pupils remain engaged, focused and motivated during lessons.Adapt activities and learning to suit individual abilities and needs.Provide pastoral support and encourage positive attitudes towards education.Work closely with teachers and wider staff to monitor progress and support individual targets.Maintain clear boundaries while providing a calm, consistent and supportive presence.We’re Looking For
Previous experience within a
PRU, AP, SEMH setting or challenging mainstream environment
is desirable.Alternatively, experience working with young people through
youth work, sports, mentoring, care or community settings .Confident managing challenging behaviour and remaining calm under pressure.Strong relationship-building and communication skills.Patient, resilient and consistent.A genuine interest in helping vulnerable young people
re-engage with education and make progress .Why This Role? This is more than a traditional classroom TA position. You’ll be supporting young people who may have faced barriers to education, helping them develop
