Program and Project Manager

Overview

In this role you will lead the Scientific Equipment Programme to deliver scientific capability and capital targets within a robust governance framework. You will coordinate delivery with cross-functional teams and external partners to optimise asset investment and project outcomes. You will shape evidence-based investment proposals and ensure timely decisions that support sustainable crop protection science at scale. This position offers exposure to strategic capital delivery and a key role in enabling cutting-edge research at Jealott’s Hill.

Responsibilities

• Lead the Scientific Investment Programme to meet capability, capital, and prioritisation targets with strong governance
• Maintain accurate visibility of expenditure, forecasts, progress, risks, and delivery confidence to enable early intervention
• Remove delivery barriers through timely issue resolution with internal teams and external partners
• Develop the CPR Scientific Asset Lead community and standardise practices for asset investment decisions
• Balance customer requirements with site, business, and portfolio priorities to optimise scope and value
• Partner with CPR Capital Portfolio Manager to shape the Programme and strengthen investment proposals
• Lead delivery of capital projects from definition through commissioning and close-out, ensuring scope, cost, schedule, quality, safety, and compliance
• Ensure projects are well defined with clear user requirements, technical specs, scope, sourcing, and governance
• Drive delivery pace by removing barriers and coordinating with stakeholders
• Act as Project Owner where appointed to provide direction and accountability
• Embed repeatable delivery routines across the portfolio to reduce rework and cost
• Collaborate with HSE, Facilities Management, Procurement, IT, Syngenta Engineering, and others to enable safe, compliant delivery
• Improve Capex processes, governance, controls, and reporting tools
• Provide deputy cover for the CPR Capital Portfolio Manager to maintain leadership continuity

Key requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a scientific, engineering or closely related technical discipline is required
• Knowledge of project and program management disciplines; PMI certification desirable
• Experience with capital-project delivery in scientific/engineering/infrastructure environments; governance and financial controls knowledge
• Fluent English (written and spoken)
• Proficiency in Excel, Power BI and Smartsheet; familiarity with PPM Capex desirable
• Experience managing projects with multiple stakeholders and changing timelines
• Ability to influence cross-functional teams and suppliers without direct authority
• Strong analytical capability to translate delivery and financial data into recommendations
